American Cell Phone Drive Extends Ambitious Earth Day Cell Phone Recycling Goal

Edmond, OK (PRWEB) April 28, 2007 -- To celebrate earth day, one organization has set an ambitious cell phone recycling goal. American Cell Phone Drive (http://www.americancellphonedrive.org), the largest cell phone recycling organization in the world, made plans to collect 100,000 phones to be refurbished and recycled before Earth Day on April 22 and has now extended the Earth Day collection campaign to May 1st in an effort to collect an additional 10,000 cell phone donations.

Every day a staggering number of cell phones end up in landfills. These phones often contain toxic chemicals that can damage the environment if they are not disposed of correctly. Cell phone recycling allows many of these phones to be repaired and reused, reducing the amount of material in the landfills. Phones that are beyond repair can be disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

"When people donate a phone at one of our drop-off centers, they're not only keeping these toxic chemicals out of the landfills, they are also putting money in the pockets of their favorite charities and giving a hand-up to others in developing countries," says Pace.

The American Cell Phone Drive team settled on 100,000 as an ambitious but reachable goal of total number of phones to be collected by Earth Day 2007 and reached a majority of their target. By extending the campaign 10 additional days, Pace says he believes he can meet that target and more. He also hopes to set a new standard for donation that will continue well past Earth Day.
